When a cavity gets deep enough to reach the inner part of a tooth, a regular filling isn’t always enough to stop the pain or the infection from spreading. Parents often worry this means their child needs the same kind of root canal an adult would get, which isn’t quite the case for baby teeth.
At Purple Tooth Dental, we treat infected or deeply decayed baby teeth with pulp therapy, either a pulpotomy that removes just the affected part of the pulp or a pulpectomy that removes all of it, depending on how far the decay has spread. The goal is always to save the tooth so it can hold its place until the permanent tooth is ready to come in.
